Nasrin grew up in South Africa but moved to Berlin at the age of 16. After graduating high school, she did her Bachelor’s and Master´s in Biochemistry at the Freie Universität Berlin. Her first research-internship in the group of Daniele Bano at the DZNE (Deutsches Zentrum für Neurodegenerative Erkrankungen) in Bonn got her hooked on neuroscience. During her master´s she spent a 3-month internship in the lab of Frank Heppner at the Charité Berlin investigating the role of Interleukins in the survival and function of oligodendrocytes. Two Erasmus Semesters were spent at the Université de Bordeaux, during which she did a further 3-month internship in the group of Valentin Nägerl, developing an optically optimal phantom sample to test confocal and STED microscopes. After that she stayed in Bordeaux for her master´s thesis in the group of Stéphane Oliet, exploring the effect of lactate on synaptic transmission using an electrophysiological approach. In her free time, she enjoys DJing and producing music, sports and going out with friends.
